Welcome
Hi, I'm Rachael. I started my working life as a hairdresser, so I suppose I’ve always been drawn towards the creative.Over 30 years ago, I enrolled in a 10 week stained glass course at my local college in Plymouth, UK which was taught by John Barrett. Immediately after this course, John offered me an apprenticeship to work with him in his new business which was about using recycled glass bottles and turning them into flat pieces of glass which could be used to make or restore some amazing things. I also ended up teaching the class I had originally studied in !4 years later John relocated to Wales, so I set up business undertaking my own commissions – from restoring and repairing to making one of a kind pieces. In 2010 I emigrated from the UK to Canberra, Australia with my family. I taught and worked in the local stained glass shop until it closed down due to the retirement of the owner. I realised I had to put on my “big girls pants” and so I created Groovy Glass. My “workshop” started as one bench in my garage but has since evolved into what it is today. A one stop shop for all your glass supplies and for teaching the art of Leadlight and Tiffany style lamps in my workshops/courses. I also now teach mosaic glass courses with Kylie Hayes and of course, continue with my commission and repair work.My passion is seeing my students walk away with a beautiful piece of art that they have designed and created themselves.Come and join me and get inspired, get creative and meet some fantastic likeminded students.
